16 cricket bats, 15 kilos of ganja: Excise Department nabs smuggler at Chengannur railway station

ALAPPUZHA: A youth has been arrested for smuggling ganja by hiding it inside cricket bats. The incident took place at Chengannur railway station. The excise department arrested a man named Rabibul Haq, a native of West Bengal. He tried to smuggle ganja by filling it in 16 cricket bats.

The arrest was made after the Excise Department received a tip-off that ganja was being smuggled using cricket bats. Officers waited at Chengannur railway station and caught him. Around 15 kilos of ganja were seized from him. The youth is now in custody and being questioned.

Meanwhile, 1,767 people suspected of being involved in drug sales were checked during a state-wide special drive conducted the other day as part of Operation D-Hunt. A total of 98 cases were registered for possession of different types of banned drugs. 103 people were arrested. Police seized dangerous drugs, including MDMA (0.02339 kg), ganja (28.55731 kg), and 67 ganja beedis, from these people.
