Involves minor boy in drug case luring with iPhone, accused Tharavu Shyam held

KAYAMKULAM: The third accused, who gave deadly drugs to a minor child has been arrested. The arrested is Shyamlal alias Tharavu Shyam (29) of Shyamlal Nivas in Kandalloor. He is included in the goonda list.

The incident happened on December 30 in 2024. He handed over 230 milligrams of LSGD to the minor boy. Shyam, who went into hiding, was seen celebrating birthday with friends and the images of it had gone viral. His manner is to supply huge quantities of drugs to youths at birthday parties organized like this and then extort money.

Police said that there are many drug addicted youths in Kandalloor and Kayamkulam areas linked with Shyam. When he was in hiding, he had filmed a video of himself plucking ganja from a ganja plantation and holding it in his hands and had posted it on social media.


He is accused in about ten cases including attempt to murder, assault and assault on police officers in police stations like Kayamkulam, Kanakakunnu and Kareelakulangara.

Rakhil, a close friend of Tharavu Shyam and a native of Cheppad, had taken a quotation of Rs 30 lakh to arraign a youth named Sangeeth of Thiruvananthapuram, in a drug case. According to this, Shyam led the minor boy to commit a crime by promising to give him an iPhone in return.


The boy was given drugs and got him arrested by the police. When questioned, the boy said that Sangeeth of Thiruvananthapuram had given him the drugs and the police had to arrest Sangeeth. On further investigation, the police found contradictions in the boy's statement and unravelled the conspiracy. The police then arrested the second accused, Rakhil. With this, Shyam went into hiding.


A team consisting of Kayamkulam DySP Binu Kumar, circle inspector Arun Shah and sub inspector Ratheesh Babu arrested him with the help of the Alappuzha Cyber Cell. The accused produced in the court has been remanded.
