THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Robbers broke into a house in Vizhinjam and decamped with gold and cash. The house at Venniyoor belongs to former fire force official Gilbert. The burglars decamped with gold of 90 sovereigns and cash of Rs one lakh.

The burglars got inside the house after breaking it open. The gold was kept in the cupboard in the second floor of the house. Rs one lakh was stolen from the room on the ground floor. However, gold of 35 sovereigns kept in another cupboard of the house has not been stolen. They tried to open the cupboard, but could not succeed in their attempt.

Gilbert’s nephew had died the other day and so he along with his family had gone to his sister’s house to sleep. The inmates of the house said that one who knows all this had committed the theft. The theft was noticed when they reached home early this morning. The Vizhinjam police have registered a case and an investigation has started. The police also said that someone who clearly knew about Gilbert's house is behind the theft.
