Man found guilty for hacking wife to death; quantum of sentence to be pronounced on April 10

KANNUR: The court has found a man guilty in the case of stabbing his wife, a police officer, to death. The dead was Divyasree of Paliyeri in Karivellur, Kannur. Divyasree was a civil police officer of Chandera Police Station in Kasaragod. The court has found K Rajesh of Peralam, Kozhummal, Kottoor guilty. The Principal Sessions Court will pronounce the quantum of sentence on April 10.

The incident happened on November 21, 2024 at around 6 pm. Divyasree was estranged from her husband Rajesh, an auto driver. Divyasree was staying in her own house. On the day of the incident, Rajesh came with a weapon, barged into her house and then hacked her on her neck and face. Her father Vasu, who came to prevent him, also sustained injuries on his hands and stomach. Divyasree died on the spot itself. The accused, who came on a bike, escaped after the attack. He withdrew money from the ATM and then went to a bar in Valapattanam to drink. The police, who came to know about it, arrested him from there.


Rajesh and Divyasree have a child. Their divorce case was under the consideration of the Kannur Family Court. On the morning of the incident, Divyasree appeared and informed the court that she was not interested in continuing the relationship. The police found that this led to the murder.
