P V Anvar’s nephew found guilty in Othayi Manaf murder case, three acquitted

MALAPPURAM: The court has found Malangadan Shafeeq, the first accused in the Othayi Manaf murder case, guilty. The court has acquitted the remaining three accused in the case. The Manjeri additional district sessions court found the accused guilty in the case.

The court acquitted the third accused Malangadan Sherif (brother of Shafeeq), 17th accused Muneeb of Nilambur and the 19th accused Kabeer alias Jabir of Elamaram. Malangadan Shafeeq is P V Anvar’s nephew. The court pointed that the murder charge was proved. The court had earlier acquitted 21 accused in the case.

Four of the accused were absconding for 25 years. They were arrested following a legal battle staged by Manaf’s brother Abdul Rasaq. The court had earlier acquitted 21 people including second accused P V Anvar. The case is that Abdul Manaf, an auto driver was stabbed and beaten to death in Othayi market. The murder was committed on April 13 in 1995.
