Pathanamthitta POCSO case; National Commission for Women seeks report from state police

NEW DELHI: The National Commission for Women has sought a report from the state police in the case of 64 people abusing a girl child. The report is to be submitted within three days. So far 20 people have been arrested in the case. The police have registered a case of gang rape. The girl gave a statement to the CWC that 64 people had sexually exploited her. 40 people of these have been identified. The police had earlier found that the girl who was abused contacted the accused from her father's phone. This phone has been seized by the police. The accused were arrested based on the information received from this. The police received evidence including video footage of the abuse. It was found that among those who molested the girl, who is a sports star, were coaches and those who trained with her.

Police have not released the names of those currently in custody. The police received information of the abuse that went on for two years, through the Child Welfare Committee. The complaint of the 18-year-old girl was directly forwarded by the State Child Welfare Committee to the Pathanamthitta SP. Police have identified all the accused in the cases registered in Pathanamthitta district.

It was during the CWC's home visit program that the information about the abuse that had been going on for two years came to light. The girl handed over the names of 60 people to the police. The police informed that the suspects are in Konni, Ranni and a police station in Thiruvananthapuram district. A special team has been formed to investigate. FIRs have been registered at various police stations in Pathanamthitta district.
