THRISSUR: A six-year-old was hacked to death amidst a fight between migrant workers at Mupliyam in the district. The dead is Najirul Islam of Assam. His mother Najma, who sustained serious hack injuries all over her body, has been admitted at Thrissur Medical College. There are reports that another worker was also injured. The attacker has been handed over to the police.

The murder was committed Thursday morning at 7.30 am under the Varandarappilly police station limits. Though the injured child was immediately taken to the hospital, his life could not be saved. Police said a property dispute led to the murder and Najma’s brother is behind the attack and that he is not cooperating with the interrogation.

It is also suspected that the attacker was roughed up by the locals. Najma and her family live close to the tile manufacturing unit where they work. It is also known that some including the child's uncle had arrived from Assam last night. Their involvement is also suspected. The police have started a detailed investigation into the incident.
