Woman postmaster remanded for misappropriation of funds worth Rs 21 lakhs

CHERTHALA: A woman postmaster has been remanded for allegedly misappropriating Rs 21 lakh rupees received as a deposit in the post office. The arrested has been identified as Amithanath (29), Grameen Dak Sevak (Postmaster) of the Mararikulam North Post Office at Pallipuram's Pampumthara.

She gave depositors fake account numbers in her handwriting. After deceiving the investors that the money has been deposited in the account, she also entered the amount in the account book and stamp it using the office seal. The police said that this money was used for extravagant life.

Amithanath had a monthly salary of over Rs 20,000. About 20 cases have been registered against Amitanath at the Mararikulam police station. The accused was arrested by an investigation team consisting of sub-inspectors EM Zajeer and Jackson and senior civil police officers Lathi and Manjula headed by CI AV Biju. Police are investigating whether more people have been scammed.
