Woman who committed suicide made transactions worth Rs 1.75 crore, crime branch probe finds her addicted to online games

KOZHIKODE: The crime branch has unravelled the mystery over the suicide of an employee of a private telecom company. Shortly after her suicide, it has been found that Bijisha, a native of Cheli in Koyilandy, was found to have made transactions worth crores of rupees. Of these, money was transferred mainly through UPIs. Even though she was not financially sound, her transactions worth crores were suspected. The crime branch took over the investigation in this context.

An investigation by the crime branch has found that online rummy was the cause of the young woman's suicide. She spent around Rs 1.75 crore for online games. She lost lakhs of rupees through this. It is believed that she took the drastic step depressed over it. Bijisha committed suicide on December 12 in 2021. She had also pledged gold of 35 sovereigns which her family stowed for her wedding.


The crime branch found that Bijisha started experimenting in online games during the time of Covid. She was able to gain money in the beginning but started losing a big amount later. She spent money again to recover it. Her transactions were through UPI app. The police also found that she had taken large sums of money from online companies lending money when she ran out of cash. When the loan was not repaid, the companies sent messages to her friends’ phone numbers. The messages badly described her. The investigation revealed that the woman committed suicide due to mental pain.
