TANUR: Five people have been arrested in connection with the robbery of gold valued at 1.75 crores, which was stolen after an attack on a youth from Maharashtra while he was transporting it to be distributed to jewelers. The suspects hail from Malappuram and Palakkad districts but their names have not been disclosed by the police. The incident occurred on Thursday around 4:30 pm as the gold was being transported from a jewelry factory in Kozhikode to Tanur via motorcycle.
Mahendrasingh Rao, a Maharashtra native was assaulted while en route to deliver gold ornaments to a jeweler in Malappuram district. After delivering the gold in Manjeri, he was headed towards Kottakkal when he received a text message from an unidentified person requesting gold for a new jewelry store in Tanur and expressing a desire to discuss it further.
Upon reaching a secluded spot in Ozhur, Rao was attacked by the people in a car, who proceeded to assault him and steal the gold. Praveen Singh, a partner at the gold jewelry manufacturing factory filed a complaint with the Tanur police regarding the incident on Friday night.
