KOCHI: Rapper Vedan alias Hirandas Murali said that he drinks, smokes and buys alcohol sold by the government. This is influencing small children. While talking to the media, he said that they should not influence him in this regard.

'I will try my best to correct myself. I will try to stop drinking and smoking. It is the public that should decide whether I am a bad person. Double justice is existing in the Indian society for years. Vedan has nothing to say on it. I am not one to comment on the minister's words. I am an artist. Vedan is a public property; an artist is public property. My job is to speak for the people. I will do that till I die. Everyone should have in mind that everyone is not equal in society. Ours is a discriminatory society. My writing, reading and songs are all a fight against this,' Vedan clarified.

Meantime, the court has made it clear that the offence against Vedan in the tiger tooth case will not stand prima facie. The Perumbavoor Judicial First-Class Magistrate Court clarified this in the bail order granted to Vedan. It has not yet been scientifically proven whether the tiger tooth is genuine. The court also observed that he was not involved in a similar crime.
