ALAPPUZHA: SNDP-NSS unity move is not driven by political objectives, said SNDP Yogam General Secretary Vellappally Natesan. He clarified that unity does not mean merely Nair–Ezhava unity, but unity should extend from Nayadi to Nasrani. He added that NSS General Secretary Sukumaran Nair is an innocent and a decent person. Vellappally was speaking at the SN Trust meeting held in Alappuzha.

‘The unity move is not an election stunt. Nair is someone who gave me immense support. He felt that this unity was necessary for the times. Even when I spoke to him over the phone, he said the same. Our board meeting had taken certain decisions, which I conveyed to him. He then said that the NSS would also hold a board meeting, but it was when the NSS board met that the unity did not materialize. When one is part of an organization, there is an obligation to convey the decisions taken by it and that is what he did.

The SNDP has no hostility towards Muslims. There are attempts to brand me as anti-Muslim and burn me, but if they try to burn me, but it will not happen. There is an effort underway to weaken the Ezhava community. Unity among Hindus is a necessity of the times,’ said Vellappally Natesan.
