NILAMBUR: Bear attack on a temple. The incident took place at the Paraikal family temple in Pookkottumpadam, Malappuram. The bear broke the door of the temple and knocked over all the idols.

The incident took place at around 5.30 am today (Monday). The locals said that they heard a sound like the door being pushed open, but they did not pay much attention as they did not expect such an incident. The bear broke the lock and entered inside, ate ghee and other items, and knocked over the idols. Temple authorities said that the bear also caused damage in two other rooms of the temple. An attempt was made to topple the box used to store oil and other items.

A similar incident had previously taken place at a temple a kilometer away. Sudhamani, a local resident, said that the bear was caught that day. Everyone thought that the fear had subsided, but she said that the fear has doubled since such an incident happened a second time.
