MALAPPURAM: A tapping worker was killed in a wild elephant attack in Karuvarakundu. The dead is Jamsheer of Mullara. He was attacked by the elephant Tuesday morning while tapping rubber. Jamsheer, who was seriously injured in the attack, was admitted to a private hospital in Perinthalmanna, but his life could not be saved. The locals protested the death of the youth.

Nilambur South DFO Dhanik Lal said the incident did not happen during tapping and that there is a mystery in the death and that two people were with Jamsheer in the place. Dhanik Lal said that he is not ruling out the attack by the wild elephant, and that it is not clear whether the attack took place inside the forest or on a private person's land. The forest department has started an investigation into the incident.
