KALPETTA: A bear entered a residential area in Kalpetta. The incident happened last midnight in the yard of the house of Viswanathan of Pattamchira Kalanurkunnu in Wayanad East Cheeral. A video of the bear has also emerged. The video shows the bear climbing the jackfruit tree, plucking a fruit, putting it down, then sits down and eats it. The video shows the bear biting and eating the flakes one by one.

The bear left the place after the family members created a ruckus but returned soon. The family then chased the bear away. This is a place which is near the forest area. To prevent the bear from coming in search of jackfruit, the family plucked all the fruits from the tree.

There was the presence of a leopard in Nambiarkunnu near Cheeral recently. A cage was set up to catch it, but could not be caught. Soon after that, the bear was seen in the place. Locals are concerned about the continuous arrival of wild animals. The locals have demanded that the forest department take action to capture the bear.
