THRISSUR: The owners of the bikes that were burnt in the fire at the railway station parking lot will file a petition in the consumer court. The forum was set up by the Two Wheeler Users Association to seek compensation and consider further action. The meeting decided to file individual cases in the consumer court seeking compensation from the railways.
The fire broke out at the Thrissur railway parking lot at around 6:30 am last Sunday. About 300 bikes were burnt. One of the eyewitnesses, Sunil, had said that the negligence of the railways increased the intensity of the fire. The witness says that even though the station master was immediately informed about the fire, they were late in informing the fire brigade.
The first unit of the fire force arrived at 6.40 am after the East SI was called. By then, the fire had spread and was too intense to be extinguished. Sunil said that he could do nothing but watch from a distance as his own vehicle, which he had parked in the parking lot a short while earlier, burned down.
Many people have lost their car keys, original vehicle documents, and valuables like camera lenses. The local MP has not yet investigated the fire. There was no cooperation from the railways. The owners of more than 120 burnt vehicles attended the meeting.
