Controversies and political remarks related to Qatar KMCC's NORKA affiliation are out of place: P Sreeramakrishnan

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: NORCA is an organization that is planning various activities for the welfare of expatriate Malayalis and is dependent on government plan funds as well as independent income.

The decision to not grant affiliation to Malayali associations in foreign countries that promote sectarianism and act in a divisive manner was taken beforehand itself. In this situation, the affiliation process for many associations was generally postponed. The NORCA Board of Directors examined Qatar KMCC's application for affiliation and assigned a sub-committee headed by the Resident Vice-Chairman to carry out necessary investigations and submit it to the Board. The committee that evaluated the activities of Qatar KMCC took the position that they can be given affiliation. The previous board of directors decided that Qatar KMCC could be recognized after submitting an affidavit that it would not promote sectarianism of any kind in the future.

It does not need to be given any political dimension. This decision is not a political decision. All the news that Norka is a bridge to the left front for the League is a misinterpretation. Not only KMCC but all associations which the Board is sure to not promote sectarianism will get this consideration. Applications from any organization will be considered on a case-by-case basis to decide whether or not to grant affiliation in the future. Controversy in this regard is unnecessary and it is requested to be dismissed with due disregard. NORCA and the state government are aiming for the unity of all kinds of Malayalis in foreign countries.

Diaspora has no religion or politics. The expatriate's religion and politics are exclusive to the expatriate world. This also aims to convey the message that we should work together to inform the expatriates through NORCA services. Everyone is given a chance for that. It is requested that the media abandons the way of politicizing the activities of NORCA, which aims at the global Malayali community.
