KOCHI: The 'New York Times' has praised the Kerala government for its exemplary defence in the second wave of Covid. When the second wave of Covid hit, many states in India were struggling without adequate beds and oxygen. But the New York Times reports that Kerala has set an example to the world by setting up 'war rooms' to find and treat every Covid patient. If a person notifies the local health center that they are infected, the health care system will be with them until they recover.
The state government has managed to keep the death rate in Kerala at 0.4 per cent, the lowest in India, when patients died due to lack of oxygen in other states of India. Oxygen shortage never happened. The Covid spread was prevented from those coming from abroad as they were closely monitored and tested. The New York Times reports that the action taken during the outbreak of the Nipah virus in 2018 shed into this.
