CPM branch secretary, who accompanied candidate to file nominations found hanging

PALAKKAD: A CPM branch secretary was found hanging at home. The dead has been identified as Sivakumar (29), Tharakkulam branch secretary of Elappully in Palakkad. He was also DYFI Elappully West area committee member and P K S village committee member. He had accompanied the candidate contesting for local polls to file nominations and soon after reaching home, he took the drastic step. A neighbor found him hanging from a branch of a tree in a field near his house last afternoon.

Sivakumar had gone with the workers to file the nomination of the party's candidate in his ward in Elappully Grama Panchayat yesterday. Friends and local leaders said that they tried to contact him, who returned home, on his phone, but there was no response.


Sivakumar has been the CPM Tharakkal branch secretary for five years. He had been working as a supervisor in a private farm in Vadakode. He was also engaged in distributing newspapers. He was a bachelor.

The Kasaba police conducted an inquest. The police say the cause of death is unclear. The body is kept in the morgue of the district hospital. The funeral will be held at 11.30 am today at the Chandranagar crematorium.
