THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chingam month has dawned with hopes and dreams. Malayalis who are waiting to celebrate Onam are welcoming the Malayalam New Year with great hope. Today is also Farmers' Day for Malayalis who have been living with the knowledge of the soil and agriculture.
Even though the rains are not stopping, everyone is hoping that the month of Chingam will have clear skies. Onam markets started to become active in the month of Aadi (Karkidakam). This year Onam is on the 20th of Chingam month (September 5). Atham day, the first day of the ten-day Onam festival, is on Chingam 10th.
Farmers' Day celebration today
The state-level inauguration of Farmers' Day and distribution of Farmers' Awards will be held at 11 am today at Thekkinkadu Maidan, Thrissur. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the event. Minister P Prasad will preside. Ministers K Rajan, R Bindu, Mayor MK Varghese, MLAs, MPs and others will participate.
The program will begin at 8.30 am with a colorful procession from the Thekkinkadu Student Corner, Thrissur. A seminar on the Kera project will be held afterwards.
