ALAPPUZHA: An action has been taken against the accused doctor in connection with the incident in which a mother and her newborn died at Alappuzha Medical College. Dr. Thanku Thomas Koshy of the Gynecology Department has been asked to go on compulsory leave. The decision was taken in a meeting chaired by the Collector. The police had earlier registered a case against the doctors and staff on the complaint lodged by the relatives.

Aparna (21), wife of Kainakari native Shyamjith, was admitted to the hospital on Monday. On Tuesday evening, she was shifted to the labor room. The baby died last night and Aparna died this morning. The relatives are alleging that there were no senior doctors during the delivery and that the C-section was performed by the students.
