Debt: Young farmer hangs himself at a bus stop

KALPATTA: A young farmer hanged himself at a bus stop due to debt. Thirunelli Panchayat Kottiyoor native KV Rajesh (35) hanged himself at the bus stop. Rajesh, who left home on Tuesday night, was searched by his family and relatives but could not be found. He was found hanging at the Kottiyoor bus stop yesterday morning. Although Rajesh took loans from banks, neighborhood groups and private individuals for farming purposes, he suffered huge losses. Last year's banana plantation was destroyed by wild elephants. Later this year, paddy was planted with high hopes, but it was also destroyed similarly. Rajesh's family lived from money received from farming on an acre of paddy and half an acre of land. The relatives said that despite the damage, neither the forest department nor the agriculture department nor any other department had provided any financial assistance to Rajesh or his family.
