SHANGUMUGHAM: DGCA (Directorate of Civil Aviation) will impose restrictions on the height of buildings and other structures for smooth landing of flights in Thiruvananthapuram Airport. This will affect the buildings in the 20 km radius from Adilamthura to Kadinamkulam. The area of about 20 km has been classified into different colour zone with nine colors given from zero metre to 110 metre height. Construction can be carried out in the vicinity of the airport which falls within the zero metre limit only after obtaining special permission from the Airport Authority. In other areas included in color zone, buildings should be constructed at the height prescribed by DGCA. The new documents of the DGCA state that the height of buildings should only be 110 m in the Adimalatura and Kadinamkulam areas, which are about a kilometer away from the airport.
1064 hurdles to land
Months ago, the DGCA had earlier issued a notice to the owners of properties stating that there were 1064 landing blocks in the perimeter of the airport and it is owned by 647 people. The notice asked them to inform themselves about the height of buildings and trees in their possession, height of the property above sea level, distance from the aerodrome reference and construction method of the buildings. This is followed by an attempt to bring more control by including more places.
NOC will be required
A No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Airport Authority will be required for construction activities when restrictions are imposed to more locations. Also construction should not be done above the height prescribed by DGCA. It is alleged that this will even affect the construction of houses.
