THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPM state committee member Chintha Jerome responded to the capital punishment controversy related to the late former Chief Minister VS Achuthanandan. Chintha denied hearing comrades demanding capital punishment against the veteran leader at the Alappuzha session in 2015. Chintha Jerome also said that she expects the party leadership to respond aptly to Suresh Kurup's allegations.

In an article written in remembrance of former communist leader VS Achuthanandan, communist leader Suresh Kurup made an explosive revelation about a young woman leader demanding capital punishment for VS at the conference held in the latter’s home turf, Alappuzha.

Suresh Kurup:

“Even when he was alone, VS continued his fight. He never compromised on his core values. I saw comrades almost the same age as his grandchildren raising baseless allegations against him and demanding capital punishment. Unable to bear this insult, VS stormed off the stage. He was alone and looked dejected. However, his gait was that of a warrior, without bowing his head or looking at anyone.

Despite facing such humiliation, he never insulted or turned against the party.”
