THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minister V Sivankutty directed the officials to take strict action to stop workers from demanding gawking charges (nokkukooli) in the state. The Minister lauded the action of the District Labour Officer in canceling 11 employment cards in Thrissur in the name of nokkukooli. This action will be widely implemented.

At the state level, a meeting of trade unions, chaired by the Labour Minister and attended by the Labour Secretary and the Commissioner, and a district level meeting involving officials and union leaders will be convened. Amendments to the Head Load Workers Act 1978 will be considered. It is alleged that many of the three lakh people who got the headload registration card are no longer in the sector.
