ALAPPUZHA: The RPF has announced that it will record the statements of passengers in the incident where a three-month-old fetus was found in a train. The information of those who were travelling in these coaches is being collected.

The fetus was lying in the waste bin placed at the connecting section of the S-4 and S-5 sleeper coaches of the Dhanbad-Alappuzha Express that reached Alappuzha railway station on Thursday night. It was found by cleaning workers. The railway police were informed afterwards. An inspection conducted by the police and forensic officials found blood stains on seats 51 and 52 of the bogie. The train reached Alappuzha at 8.30 pm on Thursday. An investigation has been started by collecting CCTV footage.

The initial conclusion is that the unborn child was abandoned between Aluva and Alappuzha. Officials are conducting inspections at hospitals on the Aluva-Alappuzha route. A postmortem of the fetus has been conducted. Blood stains have been collected and sent for DNA testing.
