Firecracker accident during Sevens football match in Malappuram; many injured

MALAPPURAM: An accident occurred at Therattammal near Areekode, Malappuram, around 8:30 PM during the fireworks display ahead of the final match of the sevens football tournament. A firecracker released from a height fell into the gallery and exploded, causing panic among the spectators.

22 people were injured in the accident. Of this, 19 people were injured while trying to run from the explosion. 3 people suffered burns. The injured were admitted to a nearby private hospital. None of the injuries were serious. The fireworks display was part of the final match between United FC Nellikuth and KMG Mavoor.
