THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The general strike announced by the opposition trade unions and service organizations in protest against the anti-labour policies of the central government has affected Kerala. KSRTC is not operating services in Thiruvananthapuram. Shops remain closed. Only a few autos are operating.
Private vehicles are seen on roads. Police vehicles have been arranged for passengers coming to the railway station. KSRTC buses that tried to operate in Kochi were blocked by supporters. Two buses operated from Thrissur depot in the morning. Long-distance buses are arriving at the stand. The University of Kerala has postponed the exams to be held today.
The labour organizations claimed that 25 crore workers across the country would be part of the strike. A protest meeting will be held in the national capital Delhi today at noon. Various labour organizations will protest at Jantar Mantar at 2 pm. The strike will continue till midnight today. The national strike was jointly called by the central trade unions except BMS.
The life of the people has come to a standstill as workers, central and state government employees, teachers, motor vehicle workers, traders, and those in the banking and insurance sectors are participating. Transport to railway stations, airports, hospitals, pre-arranged marriages, and the tourism sector have also been excluded.
