THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state government will provide a financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh each to the families of the Malayalees losing their lives in the fire that broke out in Kuwait. The special cabinet meet that convened here also decided to provide a financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh each to the Malayalees injured.
Health Minister Veena George will leave for Kuwait soon. State Mission Director Jeevan Babu will accompany the minister. They are going to Kuwait to coordinate activities such as treatment of the injured Malayalees and repatriation of the bodies.
Famous businessman M A Yusuff Ali also announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh each to the families of the victims. Noted pravasi businessman Ravi Pillai has also announced a financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh each. This assistance will be given through NORKA. With this, a family will get assistance of Rs 12 lakh.
According to the information received so far, 19 Malayalees have died. Reports said 49 people have lost their lives. The government has officially confirmed the death of 41. The bodies of the dead Indians will be flown home iny air force aircraft.
