Govt announces Rs 10,000 as emergency financial help for families hit in Wayanad

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state government will provide immediate assistance to people who have lost everything including their land due to the landslides in Mundakkai and Chooralmala of Wayanad to relocate to another place of residence. Rs 10,000 will be given as emergency financial assistance to each family staying in the camp. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan informed this. All those affected by the disaster in Mundakkai and Chooralmala area will get this help.


Rs 300 will be given daily to adults in a family who have lost their source of income. Two in a family will get this benefit. This assistance will be given to three members of a family having bedridden patient or patients undergoing long-term treatment in the hospital. This amount will be provided for 30 days.


Meantime, bodies of four missing people were found today. The four bodies were found in Soochipara-Kanthanpara area during the search conducted by the rescue team and volunteers. The bodies will be airlifted.


The bodies were found on the 11th day of the disaster. With this, the total death toll is 408. There are over 100 more to be found. The search is being conducted today after dividing the area into six zones. Soochipara-Kanthanpara is the most difficult area.
