THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has informed that there is a possibility of heavy rain in Kerala today. Yellow alert has been sounded in Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod. The possibility of isolated heavy rain is predicted. The IMD defines heavy rain as a situation where rainfall ranging from 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm in 24 hours. Thunderstorms are expected.

Those living in areas where there is a possibility of landslides, mudslides and mountain floods should move to safer places as per the instructions of the authorities.
Those living in riverbanks and downstream areas of dams should also move to safer places as per the instructions of the authorities, anticipating the possibility of danger.
Those living in disaster-prone areas must ensure that camps are open in their area and move there during the day. For this, they can contact the local body and revenue authorities.
Due to the possibility of strong winds, those living in unsecured houses and those living in houses with weak roofs should be especially careful. Those who see a danger ahead should contact the authorities and move to safer places as a safety precaution.

In the event of heavy rain, it is not allowed to cross rivers, bathe in rivers or other water bodies, go fishing or for other purposes.

Completely avoid unnecessary trips during heavy rain. Recreational trips to waterfalls, water bodies, and hilly areas should be completely avoided until the rain warning is lifted.
Exercise special caution when traveling on roads adjacent to water bodies. Exercise caution on roads under repair. The possibility of road accidents should be anticipated in the event of heavy rain. Do not attempt to drive in areas where water bodies are overflowing.
