THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Indian Meteorological Department predicted rain in Kerala for the next five days. IMD also informed of the possibility of isolated heavy rain today. In this situation, a yellow alert was declared in five districts of the state, including Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Malappuram and Wayanad districts.
A low-pressure area has formed over Saurashtra Kutch and the adjoining northeast Arabian Sea. A cyclonic circulation has also formed over southwest Bangladesh and Gangetic West Bengal. The warning also states that it is likely to intensify into a low-pressure area over the north Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal Bangladesh and West Bengal in the next 48 hours.
Thunderstorms are expected today. Meanwhile, the National Centre for Oceanographic Studies and Research (INCOIS) informed of the possibility of a Kallakkadal phenomenon of 1.8 to 2.0 meters in Thiruvananthapuram (from Kappil to Pozhiyur) till 8:30 am today. It has also been warned that a Kallakkadal phenomenon of 1.7 to 2.0 meters is possible in the Kanyakumari coast (from Neerodi to Arokyapuram) till 8:30 am today. Fishermen and coastal residents in these areas are warned.
