Heavy rains predicted in capital city; yellow alert in two districts, fishing banned in these areas

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of widespread rain in the capital city in the next few hours. The IMD has informed that in the next three hours there is a possibility of rain with thunder and lightning at isolated places in Thiruvananthapuram, strong winds with a speed of less than 40 km per hour and light rain at isolated places in Kollam. Yellow alert has been issued in Pathanamthitta and Idukki today.


The National Oceanographic Research Center informed that there is a possibility of high waves of 0.9 to 1.0 meters along the Kerala coast till 11.30 tonight. Gulf of Mannar, south Tamil Nadu coast and adjoining Kanyakumari coast today and tomorrow with strong winds of 35 to 45 kmph and occasional up to 55 kmph and bad weather conditions, fishing in these areas is not recommended on the above dates.


Yellow alert has been issued in Pathanamthitta and Idukki tomorrow as well. A chance of isolated heavy rain is forecast. Heavy rains mean rainfall of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm in 24 hours.
