Holiday announced for educational institutions in Pathanamthitta, Wayanad on June 27 due to heavy rains

PATHANAMTHITTA: A holiday has been announced for educational institutes in Pathanamthitta and Wayanad on Thursday in view of continuing heavy rains. The respective district collectors has said that the holiday is applicable to institutions from Anganwadi to professional colleges. Meanwhile, the holiday is not applicable for public exams and university exams.

At the same time, in the case of orange alert in Thiruvananthapuram district, district collector Geromic George has issued order banning transportation, quarrying, mining activities and tourism except for essential services to sea, lakeside and hilly regions until further notice.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department, strong winds with a speed of 35 to 45 km per hour and occasional up to 55 km per hour are likely over the Kerala-Lakshadweep coast and till June 29 along the Karnataka coast. In this situation, the notification also says not to go fishing in Kerala-Karnataka-Lakshadweep coasts during the warning days.

Strong winds of 45 to 55 kmph and occasional gusts of up to 65 kmph are likely over Southwest Arabian Sea, adjoining Southeast Arabian Sea and Central Arabian Sea till June 29.


Today Maldives coast, North Andhra Pradesh coast, South Bay of Bengal, Central Bay of Bengal, North Andaman Sea, Gulf of Mannar adjoining South Tamil Nadu Coast, Kanyakumari Region, Tomorrow Lakshadweep Region, Karnataka Coast, Kerala Coast, South Bay of Bengal, Central Bay of Bengal Adjacent northwest Bay of Bengal, Gulf of Mannar along south Tamil Nadu coast and Kanyakumari region are also likely to experience strong winds with gusts of 35 to 45 kmph and occasional gust to 55 kmph.
