Irregularities in Kerala State Lottery Welfare Fund Board; one more person arrested

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: One more person has been arrested in the Lottery Welfare Fund Board scam. The arrested person is Anil Kumar, a contractor. He is a friend of the main accused, clerk Sangeet. Welfare fund money was transferred to contractor Anil's account to build a house. The accused used the embezzled money to buy land. Vigilance action has been initiated to confiscate the accused's properties.

The fraud involved embezzling Rs 14 crore from the contribution paid by lottery agents and workers to the welfare fund. The huge irregularities were revealed through a special audit. The accused, Sangeet, had embezzled money by providing forged documents, including those in the names of high-ranking officials. Sangeet had earlier been suspended after the irregularities were noticed. Sangeeth was arrested by Inspector Anoop Chandran of Vigilance Special Investigation Unit 2.
