Jeep carrying students overturns in Munnar, four injured, one critical

MUNNAR: A jeep carrying school students overturned near Mattupetty. The jeep was carrying students who had come to Munnar from Karur in Tamil Nadu for an excursion.

The accident happened Thursday afternoon. The group had reached Munnar in two buses with the children. The accident happened when they were travelling in a jeep from there. The jeep that overturned was carrying eight students. Four of them were injured. The condition of a child with a head injury is critical and so shifted to a hospital in Ernakulam. The other children were taken to a nearby hospital and were given primary treatment.

There had been several complaints about jeep racing in the area. The jeep was travelling from Munnar to Mattupetty with the children. There are many curves on the road. It was during this time that it lost control and overturned. The locals said the accident happened due to the negligence of the jeep driver.
