Pickup van hits bike; youth dies, friend in critical condition

ALAPPUZHA: A youth died after a pickup van hit a motorbike in Alappuzha. The deceased is Harinarayanan (20), the son of Thamarakkulam Kizhakkemuri natives Radhakrishnan and Sujatha. His friend Adithyan (20), who was with him, sustained serious injuries and is undergoing treatment.

The accident took place at around 9 pm the other day near Kannanakuzhi Temple. The bike on which Harinarayanan and Adithyan were travelling had stopped on the road after running out of fuel. While they were checking it along with another friend named Akshay, a pickup van carrying poultry rammed into them. Harinarayanan died on the spot. Adithyan was immediately shifted to a hospital, while Akshay sustained only minor injuries.

Harinarayanan was a first-year BBA student at Indira Gandhi College of Arts and Science in Nellikuzhi, Kothamangalam. He was also a mridangam artist. His sister Vidya, who lives in Germany, arrived home today, and the funeral was held on the premises of the house.
