Kerala grapples with fever outbreak; 13,756 people in hospital, 225 dengue cases

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state is on high alert after the health department warned about a massive spread of communicable diseases among people. According to the Health Department, 13,756 people have sought treatment in various hospitals due to fever in the past 24 hours.

A total of 225 people have been diagnosed with dengue fever while one among them died while undergoing treatment. Two people died of Rat bite fever(streptobacillosis) while 20 are undergoing treatment. According to the figures of the Health Department, 37 people were also confirmed to be infected with H1N1 yesterday.

On Wednesday, Cholera was confirmed in two inmates of an orphanage in Neyyanttinkara. With this, the total number of patients affected by cholera has reached four. Cholera has been confirmed in Kasaragod and Thiruvananthapuram. The source of the infection is yet to be identified. People are advised to be very careful and drink only boiled water.
