ALAPPUZHA: Goa Governor Adv PS Sreedharan Pillai said that Kerala Kaumudi is a newspaper that has always stood by the helpless. He was inaugurating the 114th anniversary celebration of Kerala Kaumudi and a function to honour Vellappally Natesan, who completed three decades as the leader of the SNDP Yogam and SN Trust, at the Alappuzha Classic Regency Hotel.

"Kerala Kaumudi is a different newspaper in contemporary assessment. We can see that difference in the news and stances. Kerala Kaumudi's stance was very clear in the liberation struggle as well. When all the other newspapers that existed at that time supported the liberation struggle, the uniqueness of Kerala Kaumudi is that it took a different stance and did not discriminate against the liberation struggle news."

"Vellappally not only brought the community the recognition it deserves but is also the owner of a tongue blessed by Goddess Saraswati that can give a sharp response," said Sreedharan Pillai.

"Guru Devan is a man of the era who tried to create a renaissance for the underprivileged sections. Recently, various books have been released as interpretations of Daiva Daśakam to convey the darshans and Vedantasara of Guru Devan to the new generation. I know that Vellappally was working silently behind this," said Sreedharan Pillai. "When we recite Daiva Daśakam, our mind is drawn to it without knowing it. That is why I facilitated the release of the Mizo language translation of Daiva Daśakam when I was the Governor of Mizoram," Sreedharan Pillai revealed.

At the function presided over by Vellappally Natesan, the Governor honoured individuals who have made their mark in various fields. Kerala Kaumudi General Manager Shiras Jalal presented the Governor with a gift from Kerala Kaumudi. PP Chittaranjan MLA was present. Kerala Kaumudi Unit Chief KS Sandeep gave the welcome speech and News Editor MP Sunil delivered the vote of thanks. Renowned musician Biju Mallari's fusion performance was also held in conjunction with the ceremony.
