THRISSUR: Kerala paid its tribute to P Jayachandran, who stole hearts with his melodious youthful voice. The funeral will be held at Paliyam ancestral crematorium in Paravur Chendamangalam at 3.30 pm today.
Guard of honour will be given by Punkunnam at 7 in the morning. Then, at 8 am, the mortal remains will be put for public homage in the courtyard of Irinjalakuda National School, where Jayachandran studied. From there the body will be taken to Chendamangalam. Sreekumaran Thampi, Mammootty and many others from the film industry visited Sangeetha Nataka Akademi and the residence at Poonkunnam yesterday. Apart from this, thousands from political and cultural fields also came.
The mortal remains were brought from the hospital at 9:30 in the morning to Manath house in Thottakkat Lane, Poonkunnam, which is the ancestral home of Jayachandran's wife Lalitha. Family members and relatives received the body with tear filled eyes. After more than an hour of public homage, the body was brought to the Sangeetha Nataka Akademi at 10.45. Jayachandran's songs filled the air. From morning onwards, the epitome of cultural Kerala was present in the academy. Again, the body was moved to the residence in Poonkunnam at around one o'clock. Daughter-in-law Sumita, granddaughter Niveda and brother Krishnakumar were also present at home along with Jayachandran's wife and children.
