Lokayukta ordinance: CPI disagrees later cooperates, CM says bill can be discussed before introducing in legislative assembly, nine more ordinances to be re-announced

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: When the controversial ordinance reducing the powers of the Lokayukta was considered for re-announcement in the cabinet meeting, the CPI ministers opposed it. They later agreed when the Chief Minister and two other CPM ministers said that an open discussion would be held before the bill was introduced in the Assembly.

The Cabinet then decided to recommend to the Governor the re-declaration of nine expiring ordinances, including the Lokayukta Amendment. The date expires tomorrow.

The CPI ministers led by K Rajan opposed party's decision. The Cabinet took a hasty decision with the ordinance. When these comes as a bill, the details can be discussed, said Minister P. Rajeev said. Minister K N Balagopal and CM Pinarayi Vijayan also suggested that this can be discussed later. As a result, CPI ministers agreed.
