Massive fire breaks out at BEVCO outlet in Thiruvalla; efforts underway to douse fire

PATHANAMTHITTA: A massive fire has broken out at a beverages outlet in Pulikeezhu in Thiruvalla in the Pathanamthitta district. The fire reportedly affected the BEVCO outlet and its adjoining warehouse in Pulikeezhu.

A liquor manufacturing unit of Jawan Rum, a popular local liquor brand, is also located adjacent to the premises. The fire is reported to be extensive. Fire engines from the Thiruvalla, Changanassery, and Thakazhi units of the Fire Force have reached the spot to bring the blaze under control.

Buildings were completely destroyed, and liquor worth several lakhs of rupees was lost in the fire that broke out at the warehouse and the outlet. Initially, only the fire force unit from Thiruvalla responded to the scene. However, as the fire intensified and could not be brought under control, additional fire engines were deployed from nearby districts, including Changanassery in Kottayam and Thakazhi in Alappuzha.

The fire destroyed all types of liquor stored in the outlet and warehouse. Loud explosion-like sounds were reported as the fire spread. Preliminary estimates suggest that liquor worth lakhs of rupees was lost in the incident. As of now, there are no reports of damage to the Jawan rum factory.
