MALAPPURAM: Tirurangadi MLA KPA Majeed fell into a roadside ditch in his own constituency on Monday night. The incident took place around 7 p.m. in Kachadi, where the MLA had arrived to attend a programme.

The car slipped into the ditch after the area became heavily waterlogged due to continuous rain. Local residents rushed to the spot and helped pull the vehicle out using another vehicle. According to locals, accidents of this kind are common at the site whenever the area floods. The MLA has not yet responded regarding the matter.

Meanwhile, a local resident has launched a unique protest against the poor condition of the road. Manikandan, a native of the area, staged a sit-in by placing a chair directly in the waterlogged ditch on the Tirur–Chamravattom state highway. He declared that he will not end his protest until authorities take proper action. Manikandan even had his meals while sitting in the ditch to mark his protest. The highway, where the agitation is being staged, is one of the busiest roads in the region with heavy vehicular traffic.
