Monsoon in Andaman, expected to reach Kerala on May 31, extreme heavy rains till Wednesday, man found dead in Chakkai

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Indian Meteorological Department has predicted extreme summer rains in Kerala, especially in central and southern districts, till Wednesday. There is a possibility of heavy showers within a short period of time.

There is a possibility of flash floods, and landslides. Meanwhile, the monsoon reached parts of South Andaman Sea, Nicobar Islands and South Bay of Bengal. It is expected to reach Kerala on May 31.

In many parts of the state, the summer rains that have been going on for three days have flooded houses, many of those in low-lying areas. Many places in Thiruvananthapuram city were flooded.

A temporary ban has been imposed on tourism in Ponmudi. Travel is prohibited in hilly areas in Idukki from 7 pm to 6 am. Off-road safari and mining activities have also been banned in the district.

A man identified ass Vikraman (82) was found dead in the water in front of his house in Thoppumudukku in Thiruvananthapuram's Chakkai yesterday morning. He fell from the chair near the door and his head was submerged in the water in the yard. The police suspects that he may have fallen into the water due to a heart attack. There is a big cut on the chin, which could have due to the fall on the steps of the house. The police said that the cause of death will be clear after the post-mortem report.

Relatives informed that Vikraman was undergoing treatment for diseases like asthma and low blood pressure. After the death of his wife Omana eight years ago, he lived alone in a one-room house. He has no children. Funeral was held.

Traffic in road to Gavi from Pathanamthitta got blocked on Sunday morning due to a landslide. Traffic has been restored after removing the mud. Travel to Gavi has been temporarily banned by the forest department.
