Heavy rains to continue in state; red alert in Wayanad, orange alert in eight places

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Extremely heavy rain will continue in the state. Wayanad has sounded red alert today. The warning is that there is a possibility of more than 204.4 mm of rain in 24 hours. Orange alert has been issued in Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod. Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Thrissur and Palakkad districts are on yellow alert. Orange alert has been announced in 10 districts tomorrow.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange alert in these districts. A chance of isolated heavy rain has been predicted. According to the weather department, heavy rainfall means rainfall of 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm in 24 hours.

A travel ban has been imposed in various parts of the state in view of the heavy rains.

  • Ban on DTPC centers in Kozhikode
  • Restrictions on visiting Palakkad waterfalls
  • Collector's directive to stop operations of adventure parks and trekking in Wayanad.
  • Travel ban at Ponmudi in Thiruvananthapuram
  • Do not travel to Ilaveezhapoonchira, Illikkal Kallu and Marmala Waterfall in Kottayam
  • Night travel ban on Erattupetta-Wagamon road
  • Prohibition in Attappadi, Nelliyampathyi and Parambikulam areas
