KOZHIKODE: No need to be afraid when receiving blood. The blood bag traceability digital system, which collects blood from donors and delivers it safely to patients, has been launched in Kerala. In the first phase, it will be implemented in 90 government hospitals, including medical colleges, 43 blood banks and 47 blood stores.

The project, which connected Thiruvananthapuram General Hospital and Parassala Taluk Hospital on a pilot basis through the Blood Bank Traceability Application, is being extended to other hospitals after its success. Thiruvananthapuram General Hospital is functioning as a blood bank and Parassala Taluk Hospital as a blood storage unit.

To ensure the availability of blood, blood storage units and blood banks will be set up in all hospitals, from community health centres to maternity hospitals. Medical officers at blood banks in each district will be in charge. In the future, private hospitals will also be made part of the project.

Chip in blood bag

  • A digital traceability system (chip) will be installed in the blood storage bags. The temperature and quantity of the blood bag will be recorded in the blood bank traceability application. The blood bank traceability application is a centralized software platform that connects all blood banks.
  • The blood available in Kerala will be known on a single platform. The application will indicate where the blood suitable for patients is. It will be moved from the concerned blood banks to the storage units as per the requirement.

Rare blood group will be available sooner

👉From blood collection to donation, everything can be handled digitally and transparently.

👉It can be known which bank has a rare blood group available.

👉A bag equipped with a digital traceability system can be stored for 35-42 days without damage.

👉If there is a change in the temperature of the blood bag, the officials will receive a message on the phone

The blood bag traceability system is highest in Thiruvananthapuram..................10 hospitals
