
TENKASI: Notorious criminal Balamurugan, wanted in over 53 cases, has been finally arrested. He escaped from the custody of Tamil Nadu police when brought to Viyyur Jail on November 3. The police arrested him when he was coming on a bike during vehicle checking in Tiruchirappalli. He was produced in the Tenkasi court and remanded in judicial custody on Sunday.
Balamurugan (44) of Kadayam in Tamil Nadu, is an accused in 53 cases, including theft and attempt to murder. He had previously escaped from a Tamil Nadu police vehicle in a similar manner. He escaped on a stolen bike that day. Balamurugan was arrested by the Kerala Police from Marayur in 2021 in a robbery case in Tamil Nadu. After his release,
Balamurugan took revenge by committing a series of thefts within the limits of Marayur police station. He was in Viyyur jail after being arrested by the Kerala Police. In the meantime, he was taken to be produced in court in connection with a case in Tamil Nadu.
Three cops were suspended after Balamurugan escaped from custody. Three officials, including sub inspector Nagarajan of Pandalkudi station at Virudhunagar in Tamil Nadu, were suspended. The Q branch later took over the investigation to find Balamurugan.
