THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Nair Service Society (NSS) has denied permission for Vice President C P Radhakrishnan to offer floral tributes at the Mannam Memorial in Changanassery. The NSS said that with its internal elections approaching, the visit would not be appropriate at this time. The organisation also said that security arrangements could cause inconvenience. Discussions are continuing between the NSS and the Vice President's office on the matter.
The Vice President is scheduled to arrive in Changanassery on Saturday at 3:30 pm to inaugurate the closing ceremony of the centenary celebrations of NSS College Changanassery. According to information received by the police, he is expected to reach the college ground at Perunna around 2:30 pm. Earlier, the initial schedule mentioned that after landing, the Vice President would offer floral tributes at the Mannam memorial before proceeding to the college. However, as per the revised schedule, he will land by helicopter at the Perunna ground around 2.45 pm and go directly to the college. Unofficial sources from the NSS said that they were not informed earlier about the visit to the memorial and that only permission for a helicopter landing had been requested.
It is learned that the Vice President’s office contacted the NSS on Friday morning seeking permission to offer floral tributes at the memorial. The NSS said no official communication had been received.
