THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPM Thiruvananthapuram district secretary Anavoor Nagappan comes forward with an explanation regarding the complaint filed by former SFI leader Anupama S Chandran to get her baby back. The party secretariat had discussed the matter after the complaint was lodged. The party wants the mother to get her baby back, said Anavoor Nagappan.
Nagappan said that he spoke to Anupama’s father CPM area committee member P S Jayachandran soon after knowing about the incident. Had asked Anupama’s husband Ajith’s father to warn his son. I haven’t intervened on the issue directly. I just contacted him via phone following the demand to intervene in the issue. Anupama called me after lodging the complaint. I told Anupama that the issue cannot be solved in the party and asked her to solve it legally.
Anupama had complained that her parents had taken away her baby. Anupama said that she signed the contract out of fear of killing her baby born without marriage and had lodged a complaint with the police against this but the FIR was lodged six months later. It is learned that the baby was handed over to the Child Welfare Committee for adoption. The baby was adopted by a couple in Andhra Pradesh.
Ajith was former area secretary of DYFI and a married man at the time of birth of the baby. The baby was born on October 19, 2020. The baby was separated from the mother on October 22. Anupama started staying with Ajith who divorced his wife legally, from March onwards. Anupama is the granddaughter of Peroorkada Sadasivan, former member of CPM state panel.
Anupama had approached CPM leaders Brinda Karat, Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, A Vijayaraghavan and Anavoor Nagappan seeking help to get her baby back. She said only Brinda Karat helped. It was after this Anavoor Nagappan responded on the issue.
