KOLLAM: It is not every day we hear about such interesting news emerging from Kerala. However, in an attempt to boost the scope of tourism in the state, Kollam district will kickstart a project that has immense potential to see success.
A feasibility study report has been prepared for setting up an Oceanarium in Kollam with facilities for deep sea research along with displaying the wonders of the seabed on land. A preliminary report prepared in consultation with various departments including Coastal Development Corporation, Kollam Municipality, Fisheries, and Port was handed over to the state government.
The new Oceanarium planned for Kollam is a sure-shot attempt to facelift tourism in Kerala. Exhibition of various sea creatures, rare fishes, marine plants, various fishing equipment, and many details about the fishing history in Kerala will be presented. Sea animals will be inhabited in the oceanarium for the public to view. Freshwater fish will also be on display. Apart from all this, the research center will also function as a special department.
Main takeaways from the project:
A total of Rs 10 crore is the estimated budget for the scheme. It is estimated that the oceanarium will need at least ten acres of land. The government needs to opt for a perfect place that is easily accessible for tourists. The plan is to implement the project with private investment after the government acquires the land.
